ひなまつりはいつ？｜Whhen is Hina Matsuri?
ひなまつりは、毎年３月３日です。
そして、ひなまつりは、もうひとつ名前があります。
「桃の節句」です。
春（４月頃）は、桃の花が咲きます。そして「節句」は季節のお祭りという意味があります。
「節句」は１年に５回あります。
有名な節句はこの中で３つですが、今日は桃の節句、ひなまつりについて話しましょう。

ひなまつりの日は、家にひな人形を飾ったり、ひなまつりの食べ物を食べたりして 楽しむ節句（季節のイベント）です。

ひな人形｜Hina Dolls
「桃の節句」は、厄払いの行事です。
その厄（悪いもの）を、人形が代わりに引き受けます。
そのために、３月３日に人形を飾っています。
今から1200年頃前の平安時代（794年〜1185年）に、昔の人も人形で遊んでいましたが、その時の人形のことを「ひいな」と呼んでいました。
それから、ひなまつりの時に飾る人形を「ひな人形」と呼ぶようになりました。
そして、３月３日が「ひなまつり」になりました。
一番上の左側に座っている男性の人形が「お内裏様」、右側に座っている女性の人形が「お雛様」です。
他にもたくさんの人形があるので、気になる人は調べてみてくださいね。
「ひな」には、「小さいもの」、「かわいらしいもの」という意味もあります。

In order to take the misfortune over the doll, we started to display Hina Dolls on March 3rd.
In the Heian Era (794-1185), about 1200 years ago from now, people then were playing with dolls and they called those dolls “Hiina.”
From then, we started to call those dolls we display for Hina Matsuri “Hina Ningyo (Hina Dolls)” and also started to call the event “Hina Matsuri.”
A male doll on the left side of the first ladder is “Odairi-sama,” and a female doll on the right side is “Ohina-sama.”

ちらし寿司｜Chirashi Zushi: Sushi Bowl
ちらし寿司は、ご飯の上に新鮮な魚をのせた料理です。
ちらし寿司の具材には、それぞれ意味があります。

レンコン：先を見通せるように
豆🫘：健康でマメ（勤勉）に働けるように
錦糸卵🥚：お金持ちになれるように

はまぐりのお吸い物｜Clear Clam Soup
はまぐりのお吸い物は「ひなまつり」の料理でもありますが、結婚式の料理でもあります。
はまぐりは、ペアのはまぐりじゃないと貝の形が合いません。
そのため、仲の良い夫婦の象徴として、結婚式に使われます。
ひなまつりでは、女の子に将来いいパートナーができることと、幸せな結婚生活を願って、はまぐりのお吸い物を飲みます。

ひしもち｜Hishi Mochi: Rhombus-Shaped Rice Cake
ひしもちの「もち」は「餅」で、ひしは植物の「菱」です。
植物の菱は、ひし形に広がった形で、その形は成長や繁栄の象徴です。
ひしもちには、女の子の健康といい人生がこれからも続いていきますようにという 意味があります。
ひしもちも ひなあられのようにカラフルで、ピンクと白と緑の3色の餅が重なっています。
もちろん、それぞれに意味があります。

白：清浄、子孫繁栄
緑：健康、長寿

白酒｜Shirozake: White Sake
白酒は、焼酎かみりんに 餅米や米麹を合わせて作るお酒です。
不老長寿（年を取らないで長生きをする）や厄除けのために、飲むようになりました。
でも小さい女の子はお酒を飲めないので、代わりに子供はアルコールの入っていない「甘酒（ご飯と米麹の飲み物）」を飲みます。

Shirozake is Shochu(distilled alcohol) or mirin(a sweet Japanese sake) that is mixed with steamed rice or yeast.
We started to drink it for eternal youth and life, or exorcism.
But little girls cannot drink them with alcohol so they drink Amazake (sweet sake’-ish’ that is made with rice and rice yeast) instead.
