12月12日＝漢字の日？？｜December 12th = Kanji Day?
どうして、12月12日が「漢字の日」か知っていますか？
どうして…？漢字が 日本に来た日ですか？
えみ先生ちがいます。でも、いい考えですね！
日本には、「語呂合わせ」という言葉遊びがあります。
たとえば、
2525は「ニコニコ」
（2＝に、5＝こ ※濁点(゛)を除く*voiced sound deducted）
4649は「よろしく」
（4＝よ、6＝ろ、4＝し、9＝く）
こんな感じで、数字の頭文字や似ている音を、言葉に合わせることを「語呂合わせ」と言います。
12月12日は、「『いい字』を『１字』覚えてほしい」という願いがあって、日本漢字能力検定協会がこの日を「漢字の日」にしました。
2は、漢数字「二」のときに「じ」という音もあります。

Student: “Why? Is it when the day kanji came to Japan?”
Emi-sensei: “No, but that’s a good guess!”
In Japan, there’s something called “goroawase” (wordplay with numbers).
For example:
- 2525 = “Niko Niko” (smiling)
(2 = ni, 5 = ko *voiced sounds like こ゛ are excluded.) - 4649 = “Yoroshiku” (nice to meet you/thank you)
(4 = yo, 6 = ro, 4 = shi, 9 = ku.)
This is a kind of wordplay where numbers and sounds are matched to create words.
December 12th became “Kanji Day” because the Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation chose the date based on this wordplay: wishing everybody memorize one good word (ii-ji [good word] ichi-ji [one word])
* “Ichi (1) ji (character)” and “ii ji (good character)” sound similar in Japanese.
💡 When the word “two” is in Kanji「二」, the kanji also has the sound of “ji.”

日本では、毎年12月12日に「今年の漢字®」が発表されます。
今年の漢字®は、その年の 出来事や気持ちを表す漢字です。

毎年、12月12日のお昼に、京都の清水寺というお寺で その年の漢字が 書かれます。

今年は、日本のいろいろなところで、熊が山から降りてきていました。
熊は、いつも山で生活をしていて、寒くなると冬眠をします。
でも、最近の熊は、あまり冬眠をせず、ご飯を食べるために、人間が住んでいる町に来るそうです。

Bears usually live in the mountains and hibernate when it gets cold.
